Limonada de lamai verzi cu capsuni si rubarba/ Strawberry and Rhubarb Limeade

Intr-o nota marina si usor patriotica va prezint ceva care sa va racoreasca vara asta, fie ca mergeti la plaja sau la un picnic intre prieteni. Culoarea si mai ales aroma vor face furori :)

Rubarba (rubarbar) este o planta mai putin cunoscuta in Romania, cel putin eu am auzit de ea numai dupa ce m-am mutat in State. Cand am cumparat-o prima data a ajuns dupa o saptamana la gunoi pentru ca nu am stiut ce sa fac cu ea. Are un gust acrisor si aromat, se imbina bine cu capsunile si zaharul. Am gasit un link unde s-a scris mai multe despre ea aici. De la rubarba se consuma numai tulpinile, de culoare verde cu vene rosii.

Vara trecuta faceam Limonada cu zmeura.

Ingrediente (adaptata dupa A Thought for Food):

3 cups (400 gr) rubarba taiata cuburi
2 cups (cani) capsuni taiate jumatati
2 cups (400 gr) zahar
4 bucati de ghimbir proaspat curatat de coaja
zeama de la 7 lamai verzi

Se pun la fiert rubarba, capsunile, zaharul si 1 litru de apa. Se fierb 20-25 min, se opreste focul, se pun bucatile de ghimbir si se lasa sa se raceasca 1-2 ore pana cand ajunge la temperatura camerei. Se strecoara si se pastreaza siropul (siropul se poate pastra 2-3 zile la frigider).
Se pune siropul strecurat intr-o cana mare, se adauga zeama de lamai verzi si se completeaza cu apa pana la 2 litri. Se mesteca. Se serveste rece sau cu gheata, decorat cu felii de lamai verzi sau capsuni.




Ingredients (adapted after A Thought for Food):

3 cups (about 1 lb) rhubarb
2 cups strawberries, halved
2 cups sugar
4 pieces fresh ginger, peeled
the juice of 7 limes
water

In a large pot, over medium heat, bring to a boil the rhubarb, strawberries, sugar and 4 cups of water. Let simmer 20-25 minutes. Turn the heat off, add the ginger and let cool down 1-2 hours until it reaches room temperature. Strain and reserve the syrup (the syrup can be kept in the fridge 2-3 days).
Place the syrup in a large pitcher, add the lime juice and water to reach 2 quarts. Stir. Serve cooled or over ice, decorated with lime or strawberries slices.
